Does routine use of a new set of surgical instruments and equipment following debridement and before reimplantation reduce the risk of surgical site infections/ periprosthetic joint infections (SSIs/PJIs) recurrences? Is it necessary to change all surgical fi elds before the fi nal reimplantation in septic revision surgery?

RECOMMENDATION: The change of the surgical fi eld following debridement of an infected joint leads to a reduction in the bioburden and stands to improve outcome of surgical intervention and should be considered.
