RECOMMENDATION: Unless the spacer is pressing against the skin with imminent necrosis/ulceration, resulting in severe, progressive loss of essential soft tissue or bone, neurovascular compromise or notable pain and disability for the patient, a dislocated or fractured antibioticimpregnated cement spacer is safe to leave in place until definitive second-stage surgery.
